We can't, really. Myths orginated mostly from religion, and people are more likely to think for themselves and decide against religion or denounce whatever new thing comes up as heresy to their religion.
'Course, if you want to say that if you don't repost a Myspace bulletin, an axe murderer will eat your soul, that's a pretty strong myth.
