Help! Our school is making us swim in gym class. We are starting in about a week and i dont know how to use a tampon! I have tried like 50 billion times, and every single time i end in frusteration and tears. It just never works. I have tried relaxing and all the instructions and everything, but it just doesnt work for me. Also i can't just skip every time im on my period because then i would fail the class. So i can't use a tampon, does that mean i can't swim? What should i do?!?!?

Just keep trying!! I had a super hard time with it too. This might help: Your vagina slants backwards. When it's inserted properly, you WON'T FEEL A THING. They are fabulous. You'll be so happy when you get it.
I would've died before asking mine, but I've heard of some girls having their moms help them. Worth a shot

No hon you really can't swim unless you're wearing a tampon. Just take a deep breath and relax. What exactly is the problem? Can you get the applicator in? Try standing, sitting, etc, in different positions. Sometimes this helps. Go slowly. Relax. The first couple of times can be tricky but once you get the hang of it it is no big deal. You just have to get past the learning curve!
Use the slim fit tampons while you're learning. Lubricate the end. Hold onto it at the finger holds (the base of the top part of the applicator. Gently push it in until your fingers touch your body. Keep holding onto it. Use your other hand to push the bottom part of the applicator (the "plunger") all the way in. Now pull the applicator out. Both pieces of the applicator should come out. All the should be left in you is the cotton and of course the string. If it hurts or feels weird then pull it out and start over.
If you keep trying and can't get it then you should talk to your doctor. They can help you. Or it may be that your hymen is too thick with a small opening that won't allow a tampon to fit. One of my best friends had that problem and her doctor fixed it and now everything is fine for her!
Most likely you just need some more practice. Just relax. The more frustrated you get the more you are tensing up. It will happen. Keep trying! :)

omg dont use a pad while swimming!!!!!! it will fill up with water like a diaper and will sag, people will see it the gym teacher might get turned off and you will be veryy embarrassed. unless you use a tampon you cant really go swimming have your mom write a note, which at my school youd give to the nurse and she will give you a pass excusing you from gym, so only the nurse will know you have your period, that or try using tampax pearl tampons those went in easy for me, since youd be medically excused from guym you might be able to make up the classes with maybe another gym class or in my school they have you write a report if you are excused from gym for a long period of time try talking to the gym teacher to see if theres any thing you can do to make up the missed classes. good luck

try using a tampon again. tampax witht he applicator are best and easy to use, just keep practicing. and id really recommend NOT going into the swimming pool with just a pad on. you're likely to bleed everwhere (sorry if it sounds gross but i want to save you that embarrassment!) plus the pad will get full of water so thats no protection. if you really cant use a tampon, have a quiet word with your teacher, it may seem embarassing but they will honestly understand and be fine about you not swimming.

You are afraid. You keep on stopping before you finish inserting the application and back off for fear of the unknown. Snap out of it and just don't give up on practicing as applicators don't need lubrication.
The sooner you explore the vaginal opening which is a natural opening of the body, the sooner you will understand personal hygiene practices that will prevent infections and yeast problems.
You need to understand how to use a douche, too. This is very important if you are swimming in a chlorine pool as part of your life style.
