i wanna know what he meant when he called his own country a socialist state and why?

i wanna know EXACTLY why he declared Venezula as a Socialist State or basically why it's a socialist state?

He means that he wants to redistribute wealth to the poor, run it like Cuba or the old USSR.
Oh by the way- he wants to remain in total power and I am sure his wealth or his friends/cronies wealth won't be redistributed.

Hey Rapper , my take on Hugo is he is saying he wants the people of Venezuela to benefit from the national resources, like the oil. Instead of having outside foreign ownership of the oil industry he says the people of his country should gain the profits from the oil. He also wants the utilities to become state owned and controlled not private enterprise so once again the people can benefit from the profits. These are perhaps good ideologies but they often do not work. #1 the country often does not have the technology or funding to make a success of the operation like running the oil industry. This often requires outside expertise and funding to make a go of it. Same thing with the utilities, when govt controlled they are often overladen with expenses and are not profitable in running the operation. Hope this helps with your question. I do not myself agree with his attitude and how he showed open disrespect for the US, there are other way to deal with issues than what he did @ the UN. Cheers Rap.

It IS a Socialist State - although I'm certain he's running it more like Stalin than Lenin.

He did away with the democratic form of Government and went to the socialist form.

it means he's slowly gonna rise to dictator by eliminating the presidential term limit and make himself president for life, then make Venezuela a communist country just like his best friend Fidel Castro. It's clearly obvious after he took many quotes from Fidel Castro during his inauguration speech
