I've tried the cheap ($5) Victor traps from Ace Hardware...the lid comes down, but no mice to be found...the food is still there too...are these mice wise and on to the trap?

I've had great success with this humane trap in my house:

You can also get it for $2 cheaper here, but I'm not a big fan of PETA:

I've caught over ten mice with it so far and it can be used over and over indefinitely. Or, you can try making the free homemade humane trap described here:

If you do live trap mice, please be sure to check the traps several times a day and release the mice promptly, approximately a mile away from your home. It is much more cruel to allow a mouse in a live trap to slowly starve to death than to kill it quickly with a snap trap. Also, if you use the live traps outside, put some bedding (torn-up paper towels or cotton balls) inside the trap so the mice won't freeze to death during the night. When you release the mice, do it in an area with some sheltering bushes or plants. If you are a kind person, you might also leave a little bird seed or oatmeal for them.

I know you wouldn't use them, but the absolute cruelest traps are glue traps. Mice have been known to gnaw off their own limbs and tear off their skin in an effort to escape, as they starve or dehydrate to death or suffocate in the glue. It can take three to five days for them to die. Poison isn't any better, as the mice die slowly and painfully from internal bleeding. It can take up to a week for them to die, and then they smell as they rot behind your walls.

Thanks for being kind to the mice! Good luck!

If you would try Home Depot, Meijer's or Hardware stores, there are electronic devices you plug in an electrical outlet and emit a sound, the mice's will stay away. These are not to expensive, last a few years, and generally solves the problem. .Best of luck. Cats and dogs are not affected, by these sound waves .

Ok I dealt with this in our house. I would buy this foam that you spray in every crevice - it expands, get hard and gets rid of any area where they are coming in. It is sold at hardware stores. We put it under the sink - where the pipes were (I saw a mouse under there) and also outside and they didn't come back. Until we figured that out, I would catch them in a big garbage bad and drive them down the street - humane but they would come back. If it is a humane trap - try peanut butter on it harder for them to get away with it. They have to stay put to eat it and then the trap should shut. Good luck!

Well I get some real peppermint (the liquid kind) you can get it at a grocery store or pharmacy, and put some on a cotton ball then put it in the area where you saw the mice. They hate the smell so you won't see them any more. The area will smell minty fresh too!.

There is a trap you can buy where the mice get stuck and you can turn them loose without them dying. There are also many other alternatives.

Jesus H. Christ - just kill them.

The rodent population will not crash if you kill the mice in your house or barn.

If you don't want to kill mice, then politely ask your neighbors to own vegetarian kitties that will not kill mice.

Get a cat!!!

Any mice it can't eat, it will just scare off...

It is a little cruel, but at least it is natural...
