If it's affecting your entire eye and causing such pain, you should get it removed surgically. It's obviously not one of the other sties that go away in a few days.

ELLE18_UK,
First, I am not a doctor or a health care professional at any level. However, I have had this many times as well. Like you, these last a few days and then they slowly go away.

With your current situation, I believe you made the correct choice on seeking a doctor's advice. Having said that, before you accept and just go "under-the-knife", I think a second or third opinion is logical and warranted.

In the end, you are dealing with the only body and skin you will have. Checking out alternative practitioners in a more homeopathic area and even another M.D. specialist should help you make an extremely important decision.

God Bless

Your stye has evolved into a chalazion. This is a backed up oil secretion of the Meibomian gland. The body is reacting to it with little cells that will eventually make it go away. That's the good news. The bad news is it can take as long as a year or more to disappear. If you do not want to wait, then surgery is the right answer.
It is done under local in the doctors office. It should not hurt. You will go home with a patch on the eye that day. After that no more patch, no more chalazion.

Get a second opinion before you let someone near your eye like that! I've had them and usually the over-the-counter stuff takes care of it for me...so I don't really know what else works...but I would get another opinion before letting your doc near your eye to surgically remove anything.... See if you can get in wtih an opthomologist who would be better qualified than a primary care physician who does not specialize...
Good Luck. I hope you feel better!!!!
