There are three ways to connect to Xbox Live; whichever you choose will be based on your personal preference, your broadband Internet service provider and your set-up at home. You can find more information on connecting with Xbox Compatible and other major ISPs here.
1. Direct connection
This is the fastest, easiest way to connect to Xbox Live. Choose a direct connection if:

2. Router Connection
This is the best way to share your broadband Internet service with your PC. Choose a router connection if:
You want to share your broadband Internet connection with your PC (or other device)
Your cable or DSL modem supports an Ethernet connection
You want to be able to play on Xbox Live whether your PC is on or off
3. Internet Connection Sharing
This shared connection is best only if you have a USB or internal PCI modem. Choose Internet Connection Sharing if:

I presume that your room is up-stairs.. therefore you need to get a router and a length(depending on how far it`s got to go) of category 5e cable with RJ-11/45 connector (standard phone line connector), the closer your connection is to your phone line the better chance it wont lag or sag (signal interrupts between signals from and to your Internet connection). You`ll need an ISP (Internet Service Provider) that will support the 360 and a credit card so that you can pay the yearly subscription of £39.99 or if in the states $49.99 (I think)...... If anything go and check the Microsoft website and they shall tell you all you need to know about how to connect to LIVE: you`ll enjoy it once you get there and you`ll wonder what you`ve been missing out on....

Have fun and good gaming!!!

Ok so... you may need a very long cable (you can get these fairly cheap from maplin and miller bros.) Or if you have wireless internet you could buy the wireless adapter, which is around £60.
Then follow the instructions. If you hgave any problems with that then you can email me on dwinning92@yahoo.com... when you get live up and running then add me my name is frodo360

first of all it has to be broadband?
then if your internet connection wont reach your xbox u need it to be wireless....u need a wireless router for downstairs and a wireless 360 adaptor for your xbox!....then just connect then and it will load itself.
