Trees and other vascular plants transport glucose in the phloem. Glucose enters the phloem near where it is made (the source) and travels by diffusion and osmotic pressure to the places where it is removed from the phloem to be stored or used (the sink).

Trees use glucose for energy. Cellular respiration breaks down the glucose and uses its energy to make ATP which is energy ready to use.
