Different groups more likely to be under represented if cell phones not called. ie: 20 somethings, or me for that matter.

are we really only hearing from retired technophobes who live alone with a cat? Guess that explains why so many people polled still think we found wmd's in iraq.

In addition to not including cell phones, there are other groups underrepresented. They include people with a life (not around to answer the phone) and people who simply hang up on pollsters. In essence, telephone polls only poll people with nothing better to do. These are also the people most likely to make up answers. Up until just recently nobody had access to the cell phone numbers.. now they do which sucks.. that's why I got rid on my home phone and went to cell.

Typically, they will use random-digit dialing. This can be done within a particular area code or area code and prefix to target a particular area or not.

Telephone polls do not include cellphone users because these are expensive for them.
