Well including physical therapy, it should take you about 6 months to fully be better, but it all depends on how well you can bend your knee. The cut should take no more than 2 - 4 weeks to heal up just because people heal up differntly. My husband had a ACL reconstruction about a year to year in a half ago. It took him about 4 monthes to complete it. You could have torn your ACL but by what my husband said about his he heard a rip, like if you took a pair of jeans and ripped it, so if you heard that you probally did. If you do have a torn ACL get the surgery done. Well good luck with it I'm really sorry it happened. If you have any other questions just ask.

Also, while in physical therapy don't push extra hard and listen to the therapist they know what they are doing. Also, they wont take it from a cadaver. My husband is in the army has been to iraq and back and after all the jumping around he did his acl held up. He just had another surgery for his menisus and the doctor told us his ACL was in excellant condition.

Just following the surgery, you'll be down for at least a few days.

In general, they'll let you walk with crutches and a locked brace a week after. Then a week after that, they'll let you walk with the locked brace, but no crutches. A week after that, assuming your recovery is tracking right, they'll let you walk in the brace, but unlocked.

i am so not trying to scare you but my ex b/f was in a car accident and could walk fine with a limp that day but the next day he had to go to e/r and found with mri that he had completely blown it....(it didnt exist anymore)....so he had surgery and they gave him one from a cadaver (dead person)....then it popped on him after he started phys therapy and the did another mri and said his patella (kneecap) was broken but should heal on its own....total time elapsed?...from surgery to now is 4 months.....good luck but dont get your hopes up and dont fret about it....live for today - yesterday is gone and tomorrow might not come!
