I was moving a metal file cabinet and sliced a hole about 3 in long by 1 in wide in my 6 month old carpet! What should I do?? How much will it cost to repair?

What I would do is take a piece from an area that does not show trim and fit it then glue it down. You won't even be able to tell.

If the carpet is as new as you say, hopefully you saved some of the trimmings when it was being installed. I always do.

If the damaged area is still there and salvagable, I have had great luck in using a hot glue gun to repair / replace carpeting. It is afterall what the professional carper layer uses to seam carpet when he installs it. Seams used to be hand sewn but are not hot glued together.

Fluff up the piece that was torn. Check the pad underneath and do the same. Put them into place and glue them back down.

No need to say anything about being more careful when moving heavy objects on a carpet.

The installers should have left you some scraps of carpet when the job was done. Normally you should have kept them for just such an occasion. It should only take an hour or so to repair a gash that size. Call the installers back, they can either fix it, or direct you to a repair specialist in your area. This stuff happens all the time.

Have it patched from a closet area or u may be able to contact the installer and get the make and model of the carpet. I'm assuming a patch like that will be $75 to $100
