My dad barely knows anything about him, but I know he's already decided, for me, that he isn't the 'one'. I was telling my dad as I first got to know the guy, the negative stuff I was noticing and the positive. my dad centered on the negative. now, if I ever talk about the guy I can tell my dad gets kinda mad. so now, I don't talk about him at all. I really want to date the guy, and I don't want to go behind my dad's back. I don't know what to do! and I'm afraid of having one of those talks with my dad where he gets all hurt because I'm not doing exactly what he thinks is best. It's just my dad and me and he is really protective. any advice on how to go about resolving this predicament?

umm.. Jez, thanks but no thanks.. I hope that in the future, when you have a situation that you have a hard time finding someone to turn to, you aren't mocked and discouraged by someone as you did me..

really you are going to have to sit down and talk to your dad.. Ask yourself this.. If you were in your Dad's shoes, the negative things about this guy, would you want your daughter dating him? That's good that you respect your Dad..because you don't want to lose that trust.. If you dad barely know this guy, talk to your Dad and ask if it would be fair to have this guy can come over and visit, spend some time with your Dad. Tell your Dad, "Then Dad, you can make your decision and I will honor it."..

What was the negative stuff? Is this guy kind of a bad boy?? Be careful - bad boys lead to broken hearts - yours.

Dad's can be overprotective - but they are still guys and know the way that a lot of guys think toward girls. He doesn't want this guy to pull the wool over your eyes because he doesn't know if he can stand you being hurt. It hurts him more than it hurts you to see you hurt.

Has he ever met the guy - if so, then how will he know if you are dating the guy you were talking about?

Maybe you can arrange a time for the three of you to go out to eat somewhere and let your Dad make up his mind after he meets the guy.

If this doesn't work - don't ever tell Dad negative things about a guy again... ;)

Well, you're right. You shouldn't "go behind his back." At the same time, you can't just dump the guy because Daddy wants you to. It seems like you have a pretty good relationship with your Dad. Assuming this, you should talk to him. Tell him you want to see where things go with Mr.Boyfriend, but that you appreciate how much he cares about you. If you let your Dad know you love him and take his opinions seriously, that maybe enough to settle his mind. It's important to keep the relationships that you know will last your entire life. You still don't know if this guy IS "the one." Maybe a good idea would be to let your dad meet this guy.

well, if you are under 18 and you live in your parents house then you should probably listen to your dad, however if you are an adult then its high time that you start making your own decisions. If you really care about this guy then try to make it right. Get them talking on a subject they both can relate to, or maybe schedule a dinner. Just try and maybe your efforts will pay off. Goodluck and have a good one! I hope this helped some. :)

Your dad is your father an you need to understand that. He comes before this boy no matter what but I would do this.... Tell your dad that you respect his decision but will you at least meet this boy and talk to him. But in the end if your dad still does not like him, your dad's feelings are more important!!

The best way to handle this is from now on dont share negative things about someone if he hasnt got to know your dad well enough for your dad to judge him himself.Sometimes when my husband makes me mad i want to talk to my mom about it but i know she might get mad at him so i day nothing. We have to be very careful to not give to much information.

Well your dad proably knows best since he is older and proably is a better judge of character. My mom used to always tell me when and what she didn't like about the guys I dated. I used to get mad at her for that, but you know what? She was ALWAY"S right! Just talk to your dad and compromise.
