or anything else gross when eating out. Do you complain about it? I found a hair in my meal the other night (long black hair... I'm blonde!) and told the waitress I wanted a replacement meal. My husband was embarrassed! Was that rude of me?

No, it wasn't rude for you to tell them. You PAY to eat at restaurants, and if those things happen too many times, a restaurant can be closed by the health department! They should be greatful you didn't sue them!

I've had hair and worse in my food.

No, you weren't rude. I worked in kitchens for years, and lemme tell ya -- hair happens. But I never heard a cook complain about re-firing a meal because someone found a hair. We know that sort of thing is gross for most folks. As long as you didn't throw a minor fit, I don't think it's a big deal.

In no way was that rude of you!! You had every right to demand a replacement meal. Where I work, if I have a customer who finds a hair in his or her food,(which thankfully isn't often), I take it back to the kitchen, have the cook prepare another and keep the original dish, hair and all to the side in case the customer questions whether we just removed the hair and gave them back the same dish.

Definately not rude of you. Embarassment was your husband's problem, not yours - if it had happened to him and he would have not said anything then he's a coward! Don't let him make you feel bad. You totally did the right thing.

Finding someone elses hair in my food totally puts me off eating anything from the kitchen again. But it happens, even when I cook!

The one thing that is completely inexcusable is finding a pubic hair in your food - as I did today, in a Tesco's washed rocket & watercress salad. It can't have come from anywhere else, I saw it as soon as I opened the packet and put some on my plate. And it's definately not mine.

How can one of those hairs get in food... thats just not right!

Yes most restaurants are gross every time I go out to eat I always find something and I always complain and people literally look at me like I am crazy. I don't care if something is wrong with your food complain if you are paying. but yes that was gross.

You were not rude, but just a couple of questions? Was the hair inbedded in your food, or just laying on top, If it was the former then the cooks were not wearing protective headgear, if it was on top that could have come from anyone from the waiter, or even a passing customer.

It's not rude to ask for a replacement but be careful. If you have the wrong waiter or waitress they could get angry with you and "spike your food" with anything from an uncovered sneeze to phlegm or spit.

Absolutely not. You are simply demanding what you are paying money for. As long as you weren't screaming like a lunatic and causing a scene, you're certainly in the right. One time I had this happen when I was at Outback steakhouse and bit down on a chunk of plastic in my salad. They apologized profusely and were asking if I cut my mouth. LOL... that's all part of what you take a chance on when dining outside of your home. =P

wow. ya that's nasty. I've had that happen to me to before and it's not rude at all. You're paying to eat there, and you don't want to get sick so it's okay. And i mean, it's their fault, they should check for those things before. And i'd think they'd be embarrassed, not your husband! nywayz, once i found a toe nail. I swear, i'm not even kidding, someone must've put it ther on purpose unles the chef clips his toenails above meals...ew

it is not rude, but just remember, most restaurants are not all that clean. its just how it is. but we still eat there because we like it. and a hair in food is not that bad. i would get a new plate, but unfortunantly, it happens and it is common. it is no ones fault though , these things happen and i agree with another of the posters that it could even have come from another customer pulling their hair back as the waiter passed with your plate. just be discreet and polite and it is fine.
