I think that the ability for people to cling to the fact that he managed to make a tactical admission of his failure as a ray of hope - keeping in mind that his decision for additional troops is specifically absent from the bi-partisan commission that made a series of recommendations on Iraq - underscores the magnitude of incompetence Americans are now wiling to tolerate.
