Comparision is not worthwhile since Lara is a pure batsman whereas Sobers was an allrounder. Both are great. If at all you wish, I have flare for Gary Sobers.

Of course Sir Gary Sobers is the best from brian lara. Brain lara is the batsman, but Sir Gary Sobers was the allrounder. His average is good from the lara.

Though Lara has got better batting records that Farry Sobers, I consider Sobers the best as he was an allrounder.

Obviously Sobers.
In fact we can not compare players of two different generations. We really can not guess what Lara would have been scored in the time of Sobers and vice versa.

Definitely Sobers .Lara is arguably the greatest batsman, but as for a captain he is much more emotional and tend to be at a loss for ideas at crisis situation.Sobers on the other hand is cool and thinking captain .The only mistake he commited was the over confident declaration made losing one test mach.

Lara is a better batsman but Sobers was the BEST complete cricketeer ever. He could bat, bowl medium pace, bowl spin and field anywhere. There has never been anybody close to him who excels in ALL departments of the game.

Garfield Sobers - Simply Sobers
Garry Sobers was the finest all-rounder to have played cricket for West Indies, arguably the finest of all players. He did things most only dreamt of and his natural ability made it look so easy.
Sobers was a true all-rounder, he both batted and bowled, and was also an outstanding fielder, usually fielding close to the wicket. With the ball, Sobers performed superbly, taking 235 Test wickets at an average of 34.03. He bowled left-arm orthodox spin, left-arm unorthodox spin, and also left-arm fast-medium. Sobers was also exceptionally talented with the bat, with a career Test batting average of 57.78. He scored a then-record 8032 runs in his career.
Ofcourse Brain Lara is also a great Cricketer in all respects and he is overtaking the records of Gary Sobers.
I have seen both crickers playing tests. My vote is for GARY SOBERS-
