Whether you support of disagree with President Bush on the Iraqi War , there are a couple of statements he has made :
1 Before he was even elected, he made a speech about regime change in Iraq. So after electing him, why are people suprised that he fullfilled a campaign promise
2 While i hate to see young brave american soldiers die, the pentagon released a report right before the onset of the war with casualty estimates in the tens of thousands.
3 The Pentagon also released a report thay they are building super bases in the middle of iraq
4 president bush also said that the presence and number of troops will be determined by a future president
4 sec powell also made the famous quote, you break it you own it.
So my question is why are people and pundits acting suprised about the way things are going in Iraq

It has to do with accountability.
Too many people sat around watching tv when we first mentioned Iraq's threat. It was not unfounded. Iraq did invade Kuwait and threaten Saudi Arabia let us not forget.
But the reason we are in denial is we live half in reality half in media make believe. Whatever spin the media happens to wish to apply effects way too much public opinion. Everyone knows this but everyone continues to listen to the spin on not listen past it.
Now the spin is denial.
Politicians deny they supported it.
People deny we sat around and did nothing to stop it.
It was my experience that far too many folk sat and said, 'Well I am not versed well on this subject of Iraq so I will just have to trust my government knows more than I do.' Then you switched the channel to the Cinemax special.
So for every person that knew we were going to war and sat in apathy rather than act, I say it is our fault.
Have you ever heard anyone say, 'Well if it brings down gas prices?' nvm
My point is we deny because we know that each one of us are responsible for what has transpired. We elected Bush...and Bush is not even the issue.
The issue is a nation that is not aware of it's own identity in the world.
We as America are the beacon of freedom, of liberty, of hope. As this symbol, this identity of grand ideals we need to take care of our actions.
The 'act of surprise' is to deny our own guilt.

Thank you. I thought I was the only one that keeps defending the fact that Bush wasn't hiding anything in his decision to go to war in Iraq. I am sick of everyone trying to destroy Bush over this war for political agenda and what they are really doing is dividing so that the enemy can conquer. Even if someone disagrees with the war, they should not be so obnoxious and insane in their protesting because they are actually making things much more difficult than it needs to be to win and keep to our soldiers safe. If someone says they are not against the troops, then for Pete sakes stop causing them to be in more danger by bad mouthing our government, the president, the war and everything else. all it will take for the terrorists to takeover as they threaten to do is for the US. to be constantly fighting within itself.

ALL military estimates have 3 scenarios, Worst Case, Best Case, and something in between. There is ALWAYS a huge range between them. I suspect the figures you are relying on come from the worst case scenario. In any event.......
No one could have seen the success of the secular war that is going on now. The Sunni Muslims see the end of life as they have known it for years. I equate what is going on in Iraq to our own civil war... The southerners felt the same.. they too saw life as they knew it coming to an end. Of course they are going to fight, but again, just as in our own civil war, the minority population will lose. As Americans, we need to put aside our political beliefs and together, as a nation, come up with a plan to bring peace to this region; then get the hell out. We need to realize that we MUST put differences aside. We have balance now with a Rep Pres and a Dem congress. When can we start to work together? Nothing else will succeed.

Im not so sure I have heard of half of these statements, but probably the biggest reason people are suprised about this, is that they thought all of Bush's words were just empty rhetoric, kind of like 90% of what Reagan said. No offense to our former President, who carried out good policy, most of the time. I guess I answered the question.

People disagrees and agrees on the Iraq war depending on the point of view. Some agree because it is against terrorism but some disagree about the issue of oil.

I'm not surprised at all about the way things are going. The massive failure bush created in Iraq is exactly what I expected of a man with his level of incompetence.
