If it is quite wide at the head and narrow at the tail, with a very pronounced sucker it is most likely a variety of plecostomus. The common variety will grow to about 24" in length. The bushynose variety will only get 5-6" at most.

If you bought it at a chain store pet shop, it is probably a common pleco, they usually don't carry the "out of the ordinary" plecos. The smaller variety is much better at cleaning up the tank, the commons get lazier as they get bigger. Most of them just wait around for you to feed and then join in the frenzy.

it could be a chinese algae eater, or an otto cat too.
