gas prices at the pump are based on CURRENT REPLACEMENT COST of the fuel in the ground NOT what they paid for it already so if the cost at the refinery or distributor changes the price at the pump changes RIGHT NOW not when the tanker gets there !

I believe that someone at corporate headquarters calls them and tells them what to set the price at. I don't think the big gas companies let the stations themselves set the price.

in aust. there are laws saying thay cant change during the day. but, the price is set by demand and by the crude oil prices ( the price they get charged for the petrol)

Price of oil varies, and oil companies buy the crude and turn it into auto gas. I have never got that about americans. why do u cal it gas, it is a liquid,.....
