It sounds like she is getting above 50 oz of formula a day. My daughter did the exact same thing. At two months I started giving her a tablespoon or so of rice cereal in her bottles. To avoid constipation, she only got the rice at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you add the rice, you need to make sure she is getting enough liquids to keep her regular. With this, we didn't have any problems. In fact, she started sleeping through the whole night within a week of starting the rice.

I would hold off on the baby food for another month or two. You can try it, but at this age their tounges don't work properly to take in and swallow solids. There are baby food bottles now that work quite well. But I would thin the food a little with water to start. I would try the rice first, and if that's not enough, then try the food. My daughter was on rice cereal at about 1 1/2 months, and apple juice and stage 1 baby food by 3 months. At 6 months, she's a perfectly healthy and happy baby. She's not overweight and has no allergies.

What my pediatrition had told me was if a baby drinks over 40 oz a day regularly then add cereal. That much liquid is hard on their stomaches.

I would start with a little bit of cereal first, but I would wait another month or so before starting the baby food. Let her get used to the texture of the cereal first, then slowly start introducing her to other foods. When you start foods do not introduce more then 1 a week to watch for allergic reactions. This goes for both the cereal and baby food. Other then that, she should be fine.

DO NOT START MORE THAN ONE NEW FOOD AT A TIME! The reason is - if there's an allergy, it'll be harder to figure out to what.

If she's taking a total of 32 ounces of formula a day and isn't satisfied, then begin with a little baby cereal. Pick one (rice, barley etc) and give a tablespoon at a time mixed with formula whenever she's hungriest (morning, bedtime, etc.) Increase the amount as she shows you she's ready.

Hold off on jarred baby foods until 5 or 6 months - babies' systems aren't ready for them yet.

My baby is 5 months old and can put down 5 to 7 oz every 1.5 to 2 hours during the day. He got his first taste of cereal at 2 months old. The cereal seems to help him stay regular.

He can't drink anything with lactose, but the cereal hasn't caused any allergic reactions that we noticed.

Formula is much quicker to digest than mother's milk is. Your girl probably can't hold more than 5 oz in her stomach. If it were me, I would give her a little bit of cereal mixed into the formula bottle and see how she does with it. You have to use a different type of bottle nipple, the normal ones plug up.

at four months old its fine to start on the cereal and food, just make sure you only try one new food at a time for atleast 3 days before introducing something else (that so if your baby does have an allergy you will know what it is). most doctors say 4-6 months is good for starting baby on solids but would check with her pediatritian first just incase.

you should definitely take her to the doctor & explain the problem and your concerns. There is a possibility she could have acid reflux & can only take so much formula at once. She could also have a small allergic reaction to milk... so your doctor can help you determine if she needs soy formula.

SHE IS TOO YOUNG FOR STAGE 1 FOOD! Talk with your doctor and together you can develop a time line for when it is ok to start your baby on cereal.

I would not try cereal without first talking with her doctor. She may not be ready for the cereal. Sometimes their bodies are developed enough by 4 months. The safest thing to do is keep her on formula and ask her doctor.

My baby is four months and also going through a growth spurt. But she is eating 8oz every 3-4 hours. She is crying alot and I didnt figure out its because she is still hungry. So just keep feeding your baby and she will eventually settle down. Cereal is probably not going to cause an allergy but it may sit like a lump in her stomatch and cause her pain. So I would probably just stick to feeding for a while.

it is def ok to start your baby on cereal. Some people are totally against it but you have to do what you have to do. People have been giving their babys cereal and baby food at a young age. Ask any grandparent or great grandparent what they did. They will tell you the same.

2 hours between bottles isnt bad, my son is 5months and he oges 3 hours between 6oz bottles. Yes you can start cereal and stage one solids, The key is to wait a few days in between introducing new food to look for allergic reations. Some of the signs that your child is allergic are, rash around the mouth, diarrhea, and increased unexplained fussiness. They say to start with veggies because if you start with fruits the child may later reject veggies. A good starter vegetable is carrots. If your baby is allergic now it does not mean they will be forever and I suggest if you find a food your baby reacts negatively to, to try again in a few months. Dont start out giving your baby a lot of cereal as it can constipate them. Rice cereal is the best to start with however my son doesnt care for it so we give him oatmeal instead. If your child does become constipated pears can help to ease that. The best way to know if you child is ready for solids is to try to feed him/her some with a spoon, if they stick their tongue out at the spoon and wont take the food, it may be too early. They should be able to take the food in their mouth and make sort of a chewing motion with their mouth and then swallow. If they enjoy it you may see them opening their mouth for more although my son has just recently started that. Good luck, feeding them solids is fun! Dont forget a bib because they get it everywhere. =)
