I don't think these activities are okay, whether the doc thinks so are not. More importantly, you need a doctor you can trust, and one that has your back during this very important and special process - called pregnancy! If it's possible, I would definitely look into another doc. You don't need to be in pain during delivery, asking for an epidural, and him saying "No, you don't need one yet!"

Good luck and congratulations!

Oh honey, being pregnant isn't the only thing that's physically exhausting. Wait until you actually have the baby. Mine are 10 & 11 now, and I'm the 10th stage past exhaustion. You just have to deal with it and move on. Your doctor is right. You CAN do those activities. It's not going to hurt the baby. It's going to make you very, very tired, but you can still do them. I'm sorry. Not what you wanted to hear, I'm sure. If you do the "finding another OB/GYN"...I'm pretty sure the other doc will say the same. Sorry! And by the way...there are masks that you can wear. If you HAVE to do this for your job, and you NEED the money, then that's what you have to do. This will sound really harsh, but that's the cold hard truth. Now, if you were going to stand around the fumes and directly inhale them 24/7, that's different. But, like I said, you can wear a mask. The person that posted how they lifted heavy boxes is right. You need to talk to another doctor to just get a second opinion. If another doctor says the same thing, then there ya have it.

switch doctors. While yes you can handle shoveling snow working with paint fumes is a no no. You dont need that especially in the 1st trimester.......Find an OBGYN that will cooperate with you and not stress you out. Ask some of your friends who have had babies if they liked their doctors! and go from there to pick a new one. 10 weeks is fine to switch a lot of women havnt even seen a doc. until they are 12 weeks and your new doc can have your files transferred right over :)
Good luck to you

I would definitely find a new doctor. Any doctor in their right mind would write a note for you, and would tell you to stay away from the paint fumes and solvents. If he was stupid in this case, who knows how he'll be down the road. So, yes, get a new doctor.

Yeah I think I'd find another doctor. Explain to the new doctor that aren't trying to get out of all your work just things that could put your baby/pregnancy at risk. Good Luck and Congrats!

Write a list of your duties at work. Give the list to your new doctor and ask which ones he thinks you can do and cant do. Somethings you might be able to do now but not later on in your pregnacy.

Someone else mentioned this and I totally agree. You need a doctor you can trust.

you definitely need to find a new doc. There is no way your suppose to be around paint fumes and doing hard labor like that while pregnant, especially the first thirteen weeks that are very crucial to you. I would definitely find a new doc and report him for saying that. My doc had to excuse me from my work b/c of car fumes and etc... and paint fumes are worse then car fumes.

Get another Doctor.

While organic solvents can be found in all paints, their concentration is considerably less in latex products than in oil based formulations. Daily exposure to such solvents (occupational) has been known to cause an increased risk of miscarriage and sperm defects in male exposure.

Working with the paints and refinishing products is obviously more problematic than being exposed to fumes in a well ventilated area. "Exposure to paints containing ethylene glycol, ethers, mercury or formaldehyde releasing biocides should be avoided."
