sorry, can't be done with that motherboard
Your mobo has 3 pci and 1 8x agp port....no pci express slot
You can still upgrade to a halfway decent 8x video card though. A lot of good cards with the latest compatibility are still offered in agp.

your board will only support AGP. The good news is it supports 8x, so you can buy the best AGP cards.
The bad news is that your CPU is a socket 478. Should you decide to upgrade your mother board to move to PCI express, you will also have to upgrade your processor to a socket 775. You will have a hard time finding a socket 478 mother board. The new PCI express cards are also very powerful, make sure you do some research because odds are you will also have to replace your power supply also. Depending on the card 450 to 500 watts or more.
Just realize, if you want PCI Express, you will be replacing the video card, motherboard, processor, and probably the power supply.
I just did this last week.
bought an NVIDIA 680i board, NVIDIA 7950 Video card, Intel E6600 Core 2 Duo, 2 gigs of corsair 800MHz RAM, and 650 Watt power supply. The machine runs like a champ now.

I'm afraid you can't use PCI-E on your system. As from the other answer you have you could try to upgrade the motherboard but HP generally uses proprietary boards which means it could be difficultt to find another one that fits your case. If you intend to stick with the motherboard you have got then the two best choices of graphics card are probably Nvidia 7600/7800 based. Although not technically as quick as an ATI card the drivers tend to be more stable and the chipsets match better to the Intel based equipment.

Unfortunately, your motherboard doesn't support PCI express, but don't worry, you can get good videocards for the AGP slot here:

I have the The Crucial Radeon 9600 SE 128MB AGP myself, and works great.

No PCI express will not work on your computer. You will need an AGP 8X vid card.
Here are a couple..
