ok...please no smart **** comments. only someone who has owned a dog knows how painful it actually is when your dog of like 15 years passes away. My dog died after 17 years three years ago, and i still get upset about it. My mum's best friend's dog has just passed away. i have heaps of photos of him and am making a slideshow to give to her....but i can't think of any songs to have in the background!!! i have got wendy matthews day you went away, but when i put it all together it doesn't really work. does anyone know any other songs that would work? THANKS

O.K. first to clarify for TJ Ole' Red by Blake Shelton is about a man that killed his wife for cheating on him, using a female dog to distract the warden's dog so they he could escape from prison.

Second, Feed Jake is a song by Pirates of the Mississippi, about a man that is dying who talks about his best friend being his dog, and his dying request is that someone feed Jake. It isn't quite the same thing but I think it might be as close as you're going to get.

yes i do now how painful it is, ive lsot two and we now currently have four, ghost of a dog by edie brickell, its a very short piece, very somber , its about reminiscing about your dog

How can that dog be barkin' in the backyard?
We ran over him years ago
How can that dog be runnin' by the backfence?
We ran over him years ago
Ghost of a dog
Barkin' in the backyard

also i think mr bohjangles by the band, specifically the lines, "...his dog up and died, after 20 years he still grieves"

How can that dog be scratchin' at the back door?
We ran over him years ago
How can that dog be lying under the shady tree
Where we buried him years ago?
Ghost of a dog
Flyin' through the backyard

Old Shep by Elvis

Someone actually asked this song not too long ago, and there were a lot of good songs suggested.

"Song For A Winter's Night" performed by Sarah McLachlan on Wintersong CD. Not really about death, but beautiful song with great imagery about missing a loved one. I think it might work with the slide show.

A song called "brandy" it is actually about the death of a dog. I'm not sure who wrote it, but the words go " I really miss u Brandy" etc. etc. I wish I knew more to help. I lost my Chow to parvovirus years ago...I know the feeling.

My Dog Rover

(Many versions)
(Tune: I'm Looking Over a Four-Leaf Clover)

Version 1

I'm looking over my dead dog Rover
That I overran with the mower.
One leg is missing, another is gone,
One leg is scattered all over the lawn.
No need explaining, the one remaining,
Is stuck in the kitchen door.
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover
That I overran with the mower.

Version 2

I'm looking over my dead dog Rover
Who died on the kitchen floor.
One leg is broken, the other is lame,
The third leg is missing, the fourth needs a cane.
No need explaining, the tail remaining
Was caught in the oven door.
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover
Who died on the kitchen floor.

Version 3

I'm looking over,
My dead dog Rover,
That I ran over last night.
One leg is broken,
The other is bent,
On the top of his head,
There's a great, big, dent.
There's no need explaining,
The part's remaining,
Are Spread from left to right.
The part's remaining,
Are Spread from left to right.
I'm looking over,
My dead dog Rover,
That I ran over last night!
There's no need explaining,
The parts remaining,
You won't see Rover tonight!!
