Very very lame, and makes very littke sense as obviously the person has a life. What they really mean is "I'm better than you", it is a very contemptous answer usually given by halfwits with nothing to say.

Incredibly lame, as are a lot of answers in this forum...I was once told I lived under a rock and that the person was surprised I even had the Internet because I said that I had my own life to lead, so therefore found no need to watch Big Brother!

Lame, no question. It was funny when Cher said it to Nicholas Cage in "Moonstruck" but not anymore. It is telling a person that their opinions or feelings are not important, and brushing them off. I agree, it says more about the lack of understanding of the person saying it than the person being told to 'get a life'--whatever that means.

cliche and an impossible request. I mean, a life is yours because you breathe. So, to get one would be to get someone else's life. And that's illegal. Well, most of the time and in most places.
But it's not the most unimaginative insult. That distinction belongs to swearing at someone. What's an effwad, anyway?

The most unimaginative insult? No, that place will forever be held by, "I know you are, but what am I?" Talk about no imagination! Is "Get a life!" over done? Yes, and mean.

Saying 'get a life' basically means the person who said it is insane, because they are talking to dead people.
I prefer using the phrase 'with all due respect' when I disagree with someone who is in "need of a life" because it is a subtle way of telling them to go f themselves.

It's a ridiculous remark to say to someone, I agree.
Quite clearly, they have a life. It may seem they don't have the life you would like for yourself just because of the things they type... but really... no one can tell what sort of a life they have!!! And who are they to judge. Phhhfff!!!
:o)
