and 25 minutes of an evening to get home but i do the same route and the same mileage????

Probably traffic. Depending on the time that you depart to change locations, the number of cars on the road is either higher or lower.

If you wish to get to work faster, you could try leaving earlier when there are generally less cars. Surface streets can work miracles as well when it comes to evading traffic.

Traffic is my best guess. Perhaps try an alternate route in the mornings?

Try driving forward in the morning instead of reverse.
