Its sad that people do that. Your poor daughter. Next time if you are with her and someone does that, interupt them saying "we are truly sorry for what happened to you but thats not something my daughter needs to hear right now". Tell your daughter that while there are things that happen that we dont expect there are plenty more stories about people who had good experiences. Take Care Honey and Congrats on being a grandma soon!

Everyone you encounter it seems, always has some sort of an opinion about pregnancy. The best thing to tell you daughter is to smile and nod, then walk away. If she has any concerns to address them to her OB. Don't be so easily influenced by strangers. Especially ones whose experiences date back that far. Medical science has come a long way.

When I was pregnant with my first, everyone I worked with told me their "horror stories". I don't know why it is, but some people just focus on the negatives in a situation. As it turns out, none of their advice was any good to me. I didn't have any of the terrible problems they all faced..in short they were full of it. Here is some advice I wasn't given, but have told everyone I know who is having their first:
I had an episiotomy, and it doesn't hurt to go potty after wards. (I was terrified and held it until the nurse yelled that her shift was over and she couldn't leave until I went) I wish I knew.

that is terrible that someone would tell a new mom such a sad story! I have had some run ins myself with strangers commenting to me about my belly, when im due, blah blah im quite sick of it!! People can be so rude, i dont think they even realize how they ar ecoming off but it sucks. People suck and they should mind their own business!! Best of luck to you and your daughter...tell her to realx, it was 24 years ago luckily the healthcare has come a long way!!!

unfortuantely, people are clueless sometimes and they like to tell their experiences, regardless of whether you want to hear them! they speak before they think. i had women tell me their horror stories when i was pregnant and the conversation came up, and it ticked me off. i think if you are the kind of person that can interrupt someone who is relaying their story to you that you don't want to hear it, then by all means, do it. i'm a little timid, i don't know if i could. it's very insensitive of people, but there are a lot of clueless women around. i think every pregnant woman has been told a story or two like that.

I know people feel the need to talk like that. What is worse is when you have a miscarriage and every one wants to tell you about their's. It is like hello I just lost my baby don't really want to talk about it.

I hate when people try to scare me so whenever somebody tries to tell me their horror stories I just say, "everyone's different and what happenned to you doesn't happen to everyone" which is true I learned to ignore it and enjoy my pregnancy.

I KNOW IT'S TERRIBLE WHAT SOME TELL THE MOTHERS AND HAVE THEM WORRY EVEN MORE. I TRY TO NOT SAY ANYTHING BAD, I'VE BEEN THERE ON BOTH SIDES BEFORE AND IT'S NOT NICE.

that's why pregnant women should wear earplugs and blinders for their whole pregnancy.
