i heard that they cannot breath on their back because of the weight on their lungs? true?

There are a lot of myths about turtles on their back, but the reality is that while it is not comfortable for them, it is not especially dangerous.

The trouble comes up if they get flipped and cannot right themselves and then end up dying from exposure, dehydration, starvation, etc. But- they can usually right themselves!

This is a group of animals that has existed since the days of the dinosaurs with few changes. If they were so fragile that just being upside down would easily kill them, they would not have lasted this long!

Nope breathing is not the problem but they sure don't like being on their backs. I know by accident they can stay upside down for hours and breath fine that way.

yes they can breath on their back . Ihad a red eared turtle and when i had played with him and he had fallen on his back or something he could breath i had a 50 gallon tank for him.

yes it is dangours for them so be care full
