One for each period, because soccer has changed so much , the game is not the same, ...can't compare two players like Pele and Zidane !
Pele was the best between 58 ( SC Corinthians ) to 70 ( Santos ).
Maradona from 76 ( Arg Juniors) to 92 ( Sevillia ).
Platini from 79 (A.S.St-Etienne ) to 87 (Juventus ).
Zidane from 92 (Bordeaux ) to 2006 ( Madrid ).

Edson Arantes, also known as Pele. He is the all-time top scorer in the history of the Brazil national team and is the only footballer ever to win three World Cup titles as a player. His famous number 10 shirt has become traditional among creative attacking midfielders and forwards, and many of the sport's great players have since worn it.

Check the stats and they speak for themselves. There are a lot of good up and coming soccer players but, hands down, nobody is or was ever better than Pele.

why everyone pick a striker its all about the goals how about Djalma Santos a highly underrated defender that was key during the pele era in brazil or Franz Beckenbauer who completely changed the defensive position and made it ok for defenders to go past midfield think not about the goals but about how skill full a player truly was or is not to say forwards dont have great skill im just trying to open another side of the equation

Everyone always talks about attacking players without even considering defenders;

Franz Beckenbauer. Best player ever.

Great strikers win you matches, but great defenders win you championships.

I'd have to mention Franco Baresi, Bobby Moore and hopefully one day John Terry if he has a long succesful spell as England captain.

Other than defenders I'd have to say Diego Maradonna though nobody in England seems to like him for some reason...

Ronaldinho and Ronaldo(when he was in shape). Most people say pele and Maradonna, but if you see how people played soccer back then compared to know there is a big difference. Trust me the difference is huge. If Freddy Adu had a time machine and went back he would be a soccer god. too bad he suck here. Just watch videos online of how they played back then.

Franz Beckenbauer, Pele, Maradona, Gerd Muller (Why does everyone kept on forgetting him?), Zinedine Zidane, Andriy Shevchenko (oh, how I love him. He's the second best European scorer, right after Muller), Ronaldo (back to his 2002 self)

Pele. Hands down. This was a man who single-handedly won 3 World Cups for Brazil and could score at will anytime he chose to.
