You can only trust the instant messenger conversation as much as you can trust the person you are interacting with.
If you're doing things on a webcam or saying things you want to be between you and the other person and noone else make sure it's with someone you trust completely. Otherwise always expect them to be recording the conversation, getting screen captures or recording your actions on cam.
Basically, if in doubt, don't do it!

well, there are such things as keyloggers, a form of spyware that traces EVERY SINGLE KEY THAT U TYPE so it can copy any important things u put on the internet, such as passwords, bank account no.'s, anything that u type the spyware will know. other than that, if u have a common, safe, and trusted installation of IM, and u have a good anti-spyware program and so forth, then i suppose u wood b ok.
