LOL - they do seem to be shilling for Apple. But the Consumer Electronics Show where the phone was unveiled, is big news. NPR covers a lot of smaller stories the big outlets don't have time for, so maybe that's why you're hearing more about it there than through other media outlets.

Plus, NPR's news broadcast is only two hours long, but many stations repeat the whole thing two or three times, so you just might have caught again the same segment you heard earlier.
