Only if it is a regulation aluminium box no less then 6 and 3\4 inches off the ground. Of course this rule is relaxed if the player has a shooting record of better than 63%, in which case a strong gust of wind (from the easterly) should issue from the NBA official fan to try and put him off.

I play in NJ for my high school team and you can not stand on the box. We had some new rules so I dont know if we use the same as you

YES, or they never said anything to me when i did it in hs.. i just didn't go past it towards the baseline..
