Not because voters are smarter, but because voters will want to send a message to the political world. Voters may send a candidate into office just because they promise to end war and not start new ones... and that could be anyone. In my opinion, the candidate "percieved" to be honest will win, and that has nothing to do with actual honesty and much more to do with the press and television.
