My three month old has begun crying when anyone other than her father or I hold her (or even talk to her). My mother, who we see at least once a week, can't even hold her without her crying. My husband's mother now refuses to talk to her (yes, I know this will make it worse) because she cries every time. It's so pitiful. She sticks out her bottom lip and then starts screaming. Isn't she young for this? My other two never had any problems with people, even complete strangers. Anybody else have experience or words of wisdom?

Its not that baby is weary of strangers, but infact has just become more clingy to you and daddy, at this age its perfectly normal for babies to go through this. Taking her out visiting is probably a good thing, even if baby just sits with you or at your feet, so that it knows your close incase your needed.
I wouldnt worry to much, baby will grow out of it given time.

Your little one being weary of strangers is actually a good thing! Although it can make some people, like your MIL, feel insulted or sad, they shouldn't. It means your baby recognizes mommy and daddy, is used to you and know's that you two are who are "supposed" to be around her. The grandma's and others she is playing strange with will just have to be patient, the more she see's them the more she will get used to them.

she is a little early, most become wary of strangers by age 5- 6 months. However, it is also a little early to be too worried about it. I think there is plenty of time for her personality to change and for her to become more relaxed about strangers. My daughter was a little shy of strangers around 6 months although she wasnt quite as wary as your daughter. Now she is quite the social butterfly and i have a hard time keeping her away from strangers!!! lol

My 3 mth old has developed that even when he was only 6wks old. Most of the time, he won't even let his father carry him. So I guess it's normal for your baby as well. Continue talking to your baby when she's in somebody's arm to distract her or your husband's mom can carry her in such a way that she faces front so that she's distracted with things around her. Hope this helps.

no its not early and it is normal....babies can sense security and your mother is obviously out of your daughters comfort zone....not that your mother is a clutz or anything but i have an aunt who is a clutz and who can trip over air and everytime she holds a baby (mine or her own grandchildren) they cry as if they are uncomfortable
