A square root of a number is a number that has to be multiplied by itself to get the original number again.
Square Root of 1,000,000 is 1,000. 1,000*1,000 = 1,000,000.

The square root of a number is the number which when multiplied by itself will give the original number. Some examples are given:-
Number 4 square root 2; Number 9 Square root 3; number 25 square root 5; Number 100 square root 10; Number 900 square root 30 etc.
The square root of a number can be represented on this page by ^ ½
Examples are:-
9^½ =3, 81^½ = 9 etc
On a calculator there is a sign for square root but I can`t reproduce it on this page.
The square root of a million is given by:-1,000,000^½ =1000.
Answer obtained by using the square root sign on a calculator or by using the fact that 1000 x 1000 = 1,000,000
Hope this is of use.

Okay. If you square a number, that means you multiply it by itself, so 5 x 5 = 25, therefore 5 squared is 25.
Square root is the opposite. So if you start with 25 and had to find the square root, then you'd ask yourself what x what makes 25? and that is the square root. (both numbers have to be the same.)
In other words, it is the root of where the square came from.
Hope that helps

Square Roots are a single number, which when multiplied by itself produces a 'square'.
e.g. 3 x 3 = 9
Hence the square root of 9 is 3
Similarly, 10 x 10 =100
Hence the Sq Rt of 100 is 10
Sq Rt (1,000,000) = 1,000
N.B. 1000 x 1000 = 1000000.

Assuming a number is a perfect square, its square root can be found from its prime factors. To reduce the number to its prime factors, divide it by prime numbers starting with the lowest possible (2 if the number is even), using each prime as many times as possible, until you end up with a quotient of 1.
If we do this with 1,000,000 we find that we can divide by 2 six times, we cannot divide by 3 at all, and we can also divide by 5 six times.
Thus 1,000,000 = 2^6*5^6
To find the square root simply halve the indices.
The square root is 2^3*5^3 or 8*125=1,000.

If I multiplied two by two, I get four. That means two is the square root of four. When a number is multiplied by itself, it is the square root of the answer. For a million, it is one thousand times one thousand. Not all numbers have a square root (without decimals) so you just learn which ones do. These are called square numbers.

As to the first part, consider a real (as opposed to complex) number x , that is equal to y * y. +/- y are then the square roots of x.
