Thees days it is used as a figure of speech ( metaphor) to refer to a long difficult journey as an Odyssey, which really is the 10 year journey of Ulysses ,another one is when somebody is describing someone very handsome to say he is a Adonis WHO is a very handsome character from Greek mythology
