This question is impossible to answer as worded. Or way too easy. The simple answer is "of course not." For if he had been African American, his parents would have been too. And therefore they (especially his father) would not have been in the position to do what they did in life. And since GW's success is largely a function of his father's success, it's almost begging the question.
Also, if he had been an African American, his entire life experience would have been completely different from what it has been. He would have been a completely different person. I doubt, for instance, that he would have been in a position to marry Laura, and she has been a tremendous source of support and a major reason for his success.
All this aside, I think one of your ideas is right. The Republican party is not nearly ready to nominate a person of color other than white for President. Just think about it. The only one who has come close was Colin Powell, who had absolutely no political experience or credentials. (And his positions on the issues would have prevented his being nominated anyway.)

I hate to label an entire party as racist either. So I won't call the Dems racist even though they cater to minorities by promising them that they know what's best for them, keeping them subjugated by welfare and government programs at every turn.
Republicans have done so much more for African Americans than anyone realizes, starting with Lincoln. If it hadn't of been for our party LBJ would not have been able to get his equal rights laws passed in congress - too much opposition from his own party.
Patronizing a race and baiting them to hate the other side does not equate to promoting equality.
And are you sure that the "unwarranted" attacks on Obama are coming towards Obama. I strongly suspect that no one in the GOP really cares about the guy right now. What has he done to be concerned about? Hillary is the one who will rip him apart for us.

Well, Condi Rice is better qualified to run a country than Obama.
Obama is TOO YOUNG
Obama is TOO INEXPERIENCED. He has only been a senator for two years.
Obama is just a pretty boy with a nice speaking voice. He is too leftist.
Condi is better educated. Condi has served our country as Sec. Of State and National Security advisor.
Although she has never served an elected post, I would support her over pretty boy Obama.
Maybe Obama has presidential potential, but he needs more time as a senator. Give him a couple of term as senator, let him grow a track record, then consider him for a national office.
Color has NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. Experience, political leanings and philosophy are the important factors to be considered when looking at a presidential candidate.
I'd support Condi over Obama any day.
And the Dems are bigger racists than Republicans. The Dems are better liars.
Read the Revered Wayne Perryman's UNFOUNDED LOYALTY. Perryman is an African American pastor who exposes in no uncertain terms how the Democrats keep the African Americans down.....not the Republicans!

Even if by some miracle an African American Gerorge Bush made it into office. He wouldn't have been elected for a second term. A black Bush would've had one opportunity to screw up and they would've been like I told you so. This George Bush tends to screw up a lot and he's still in office.
Personally I would've liked to Condi and Collin Powell run in the 2008 elections. But they ruined any chance they had by associating with damn *** Bush.

Unfortuately, no matter what we do in this country there is alot of racism. And any minority that runs for a powerful office is going to recieve death threats. I would not mind a black president or a woman president. But I don't think it would happen because we have too many redneck racists in this country that don't want to see it happen. Although a change like that I think would be extremely beneficial for this country and I hope one day I see either a Black or Female President, it will finally mean that this country is ready for change and is finally moving forward. Margaret Thatcher was the prime minister for the UK for 12 yrs and is concidered by many brits to have been one of the best and she took no bull from anyone, and that is the type of President we need.

Obama has put himself into the political arena, and is open to attacks. The GOP nominated Condi and Powell and Gonzales to positions of power, and yet the Demos attack them. Neither attacks on Condi, Powell, Gonzales, Ford Jr., or Obama are racist. Its politics, and just because one is a minority does not make them immune. I am not excusing blatant racial slurs, but be serious. One can criticize Obama for being inexperienced and liberal without being a racist.

Well I have noticed that black Americans have ran for the Democrat party nomination for the Presidency but have never made it passed the primary. Is this because of the racism in your own party?

Don't use race against the GOP. If we were really "racist" then Condi wouldn't be Sec. of State, and Colin Powell before her. And on the Obama situation, the Republicans don't like him because he is a liberal and doesn't present good policies, not because of race.

You're right. Bush wouldn't have stood a snowball's chance in hell of being elected if he had been black. Of course, it's not just his whiteness that got him into office. It's the family political connections and all of that money.
If Colin Powell had chosen to run for president in 2008, I bet the Republicans would've backed him.

That is a good question to ponder since racist has always contended that it was blacks that the ones that were inept, unqualified, couldn't be a commander-in-chief, etc. Why did he get into office?
