How can I get out of an apt. lease when I never moved in? Lease was signed/but we can't move in/we're stuck!

Question

After power went out, all our money was lost buying generators, hotel rooms for 8 days. We returned keys, nothing was ever moved in but now we are liable to pay rent for a place we are not even in. Is there any way to get out of this? We live in WA state.

What type of lease did you sign?? I don't understand, where you planning on moving to a new place? Why did you sign a lease vs renting a place if it was going to be temporay stay?
