We're no longer talking football - we're talking business, marketing and merchandising on a global scale. Football stopped being a game at the end of the 80s.

The LA Galaxy of the MLS think that David Beckham is worth that much. As long as the people signing over his paycheck is willing to pay him that and the fans in LA are willing to spend the money to buy a ticket to see him play then their opinions of this is what really counts the most.

David Beckham is no longer just a footballer - he is a saleable commodity and, to his credit, he has retained the right to act as his own salesman. I think a lot of people are really very jealous of this celebrity and forget just how brilliant a footballer he has been in the past.

Economics my friend, no he's not worth it personally but if the revenue that he generates for the LA Galaxy outweighs the cost of employing him then its money well spent.
Simple economics but obscene wages for an individual.
Can't fault Beckham though, WELL DONE boy!

I am American and we got a few players in other sports that get that kinda money, but for a soccer player??? I don't know. But it is not exactly that much because it includes sponsors and incentives to get that much but it is not that crazy to me. If he was ten years younger then I would say yes but he is not. Did he get overpaid? Hell yes but what athlete doesn't?

He will increase the fan attendence at games in the US then they will realize he is washed up ... I personally think he came here to the US because he can't hack it in Europe anymore.....
Most of the money he will be getting is in Endorsement money so that salary is a bit off

Thats not a transfer fee, thats his wages, signing on fee etc. etc.
What American teams pay their stars puts European sport well behind. I don't just mean football of course.
