My doctor just referred me to an ear nose and throat specialist because I can't breathe through the right side of my nose without using afrin nose spray. He said I probably have swollen nasal passages. What do they do to treat this besides medications? I've taken a lot of sinus and allergy pills that didn't work at all, and I don't want to take any more. Is there anything else they can do?

u may take steroids + anihistaminics
and try to lower the afrin dosage till u dont take it anymore in a week (it is tough i know it ,but try it)
take that piece of information the worst down of any decongestant is rebound congestion, when the drug effect fades the nasal passages become again congested with even worse condition as nasal mucosa had suffered anoxia (low oxygen due to severe constriction of blood vessels) and makes u again in need for another dosage of the drug (become afrin addicted).
so try to give up afrin and take steroids under doctor supervision +antihistaminics

Stop using nasal spray. Your nose will clamp shut for a couple weeks and when it starts to open back up.....DONT USE ANY NOSE SPRAY. Nasal spray is only good for one or two times. After that its worthless and will just cause your nose to close up more. It takes several days for it to "fix" itself. The best thing to do at this point is let your body adjust back to zero meds, then try something else if its still a problem

You may have some polyps growing in that side, which may have to be removed. This is only one example of what this could be. Another idea is that you have a deviated septum (on the inside of your nose). Anyway, the specialist is your best bet, and he can explain exactly what's going on in there better than anyone here can on answers. I wish you the best of luck.

I have sinuses too and there's a soup that I take that is slightly spicy and it works like a miracle
But it's not a permanent solution, if your sinus is serious you should always get someone professional to examine it, atleast to tell you the condition you're really in
