Is this (2/5)x=3 1/2 or 2/(5x)=3 1/2 ?

If it is the first, then:
1. 8 3/4
2. 5 1/3

If it is the 2nd:
1. 4/35
2. 3/16

Learn to do things like this yourself or you will never get anywhere. Fractions and simple equations are some of the building blocks of higher math.

Simplify these by multiplying each side of the equation by the reciprocal of the fraction that's with the x.

2/5 * 5/2 x = 3 1/2 * 5/2
x = 7/2 * 5/2
x = 35/4 = 8 3/4

3/4 * 4/3 x = 4 * 4/3
x = 16/3 = 5 1/3

Please tell me that you understand the explanation and aren't just copying this into your homework without learning how to do the problems.

I think you need to learn how to actually do these problems on your own.
what you want to do is get x by itself...
3/4x = 4 move the 3/4 over to the otherside and when you do that you divide 4 by whatever is in front of x ... in this case 3/4
x = 4 / 3/4 ... to divide by a fraction you want to flip the fractiona nd multiply it ... so 3/4 becomes 4/3 and you multiply that to 4
x = 4 * 4/3 .... now you just multiply and there is your answer for x
hopefully you can multiply fractions by now
hope this helps you... and try to learn the process instead of gettign the answers from others... that can be considered cheating
good luck

ill tell you how to do it, which is nothing more than you should get from looking in your book at examples. You want x by itself on one side. you do that by multiplying both sides by the inverse of the number next to the x.

ok, buddy...what grade are you in? wow i learned this stuff years ago. btw, if it's for school, i think your teacher won't be too happy that your asking strangers online to do your work for you. and anyways that is sooo easy! do it yourself already!!!
