Because parents these days (generally speaking) bend over backwards to do everything for their kids. Kids have to be able to stand up and accept the the results of their actions. If they don't do their homework, let them suffer the consequences-- not be bailed out .
Today's parents are jumping through hoops- jack-assing their kids where ever they want to go WHENEVER they demand to go, making excuses for them, etc,- trying to be their FRIEND... not their PARENT
Every once on a while they need to be told NO!
they need to be allowed to be KIDS, make mistakes, fall down and scrape their knees. They need to be reprimanded and punished when they screw up, and rewarded for when they do good.
HELPING with homework is good-- that's actually the JOB of the parent.
DOING the homework doesn't help little Johnny or Becky AT ALL.

I agree the answer shouldn't be spoon fed. But it's nice to offer people resources to help them find the answer. I figure some of them are tired or rushed or overwhelmed with a lot of homework and need someone to help them focus. Have you ever had a question or problem and get brain block about it? It doesn't hurt to ask for help once in awhile. I watch the names of the people I answer, to make sure they're not asking for help with every single problem or assignment.
If you don't want to help them, or think it's a bad idea, just skip the Homework Help topics. ;)

Hello, i have a child his name is Jim, i don't necessarily help him with come work, but i mean we all were kids wance right? My best friends son, his grandmother does his homework, i call it lazyness is the reason why, children are just not punished or put up to there potentials like they use too. I don't let my children sit around the house all day, i keep their minds active. Like with a Sudoku books or something as a puzzles.

I figure someone who'll trust a stranger on the internet for homework help deserves whatever he/she gets: I've given the wrong obviously answers sometimes so that their teacher/professor can have a laugh if the person is dumb enough to copy it down and turn it in.

i know what you mean. I try to explain why I get the answer I do (and I recently gave a wrong answer! Oh my!) but sometimes kids need more help than they get in schools. They may need to be shown how to do it. It would be nice to have more dialog on these questions -- "How would you start the problem? What confuses you about it?" etc. But I can understand why Yahoo! doesn't want to allow discussion.

Actually, this place is a homework disaster most of the time. Some people just answer anything to get two lousy points.

Probably because they like to help people.
Just kidding.
But here's the thing.....if a kid has the internet....his homework is already done for him/her, whether someone on Yahoo! Answers helps him/her or not.
Kid's are either stupid or they're not and someone helping them with their homework on this site isn't going to change that either way.

I guess people want the points or they want to look (and I say look) intelligent? I don't do that I always tell them to do their own or google it. If they have access to internet it is very easy to do your own research. But even looking on the net is to easy. I did not have internet when I was a kid.

OK, point taken.
Who is then going to correct your spelling, grammar and punctuation?
I always try to HELP them find the answer, by perhaps doing one problem when there are six listed, so that they can learn something.
