First of all, you are absolutely wrong to rank hockey right with the WNBA. Hockey is one of the roughest sports ever. It is also one of the fastest. I would care if hockey was no longer around. I am a die hard New York Rangers fan. I want to see the Rangers making progress toward winning a 5th Stanley Cup. The Rangers are making progress for the first time in years, so I haven't bailed on them in the bad times and I sure as hell won't in the good times. So, hell yeah I would care, because the Rangers are playing good hockey right now.

Ice hockey never was very popular, except for the early and mid-90's in the US. However, it has consistently been popular in Canada. The NHL is struggling now because of the lockout and because it grew to include teams in many cities that do not have sufficient fan support.
So I suppose a few people would care, but mostly Canadians and possibly Europeans.
The NHL has not done as well in the US recently, but with the resurgence of the large-market New York Rangers, this could change (the NHL reached its arguably highest point when the Rangers won the Stanley Cup in 1994).

I love the NHL, and I've been born and raised on hockey. And there are many others out there that are similar or more into hockey. There are quite a few people that would care. You should go meet yourself a real hockey fan, they might be able to show you the finer points of the game.

If hockey were to vanish, the world would not come to an end. But the world would be a poorer place, lacking the NHL's richness and action! With all the pain and suffering in the world it is only right that something exists as wonderful as hockey.
Go Blues!

Normally, in any other season I would have to answer that I would care. But since the 32nd version of the Broad Street Bullies are playing like a first year expansion team and the league is morphing into the Ice Capades I can honestly say it would take a while for me to miss it.

Here are just a few of the people who would care: NHL players, families that are supported by the salaries they make, people who work in the arenas selling concessions, most Canadians, most people from Sweden and Finland, people in 30 NHL cities who pay to go to the games, minor league and junior players hoping to make the NHL one day, children all over the world learning the game, and me.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion although you don't say WHY you dislike the sport. In my book, it is the fastest moving sport, the sport that requires the most teamwork, the sport that requires players to be in the best shape, and Yes, the best sport in the world to watch AND play.

If the NBA went away, would anyone care? What about the NFL? What about Major League Baseball? Hockey is the same, yes, people would care.
I rank you as relevant as Major League Soccer.

In terms of who would care in the US, probably not many. But, amazingly as it might seem, there are other countries, other people on Earth who have different, but no less valid opinions, as Americans do. Just because your society has not embraced hockey as a sport worthy of your attention spans does not make it something deserving of your derision. Americans have long judged soccer to be beneath their attention, as well, save for the World Cup, despite the billions around the world who see it as religion. American football has not caught on in a major way anywhere in the world - people find it incredibly silly to watch, populated as it is by big, fat men in unmanly amounts of protection who usually play a total of what, 10-12 minutes of actual game time? If you wish to deride what other people like, do it in your own mind, lest you find yourself open to attack of what far more other people find puerile about your own intersts.
