canadian flag?

Question

i have canada's heritive protgect and i chose the canadian flag and i need lots of info here are my question(please list where u found out your info)-why is it red and white
-who desiged it
-why are there 2 band on the side
-why is there a maple leaf
-why did we get r own flag

Dr. Stanley's design is based on a strong sense of Canadian history. The combination of red, white and red first appeared in the General Service Medal issued by Queen Victoria. Red and white were subsequently proclaimed Canada's national colours by King George V in 1921. Three years earlier, Major General (later the Honourable) Sir Eugene Fiset had recommended that Canada's emblem be the single red maple leaf on a white field - the device worn by all Canadian Olympic athletes since 1904.

If you have access to a library or to on-line resources that can access this journal, go to the Journal of Canadian History Vol. 25 No. 4 (Winter 1990-91) and see the article by Alistair B. Fraser called "A Canadian Flag for Canada" on pages 64-81. This is by far the best explanation.

Colours of the Canadian Flag were chosen to represent the following:

Red: to signify the English, loftiness, royalty, assurance & military virtues

White: to signify the French, probity & loyalty.

The Canadian Red Ensign was replaced by the red and white maple leaf flag on February 15, 1965.

2 bands represent the atlantic and pacific ocean (originally blue)
maple leaf to represent canada
we always had our own flag, but its just that lester b pearson (i think) wanted a new one, this flag now was chosen over i think 15000
