My fiance and I have recently started trying for a baby and I think we may have been succesful but I dont know when I can do a test, my periods arent regular at all and sometimes I go ages without bleeding and other times it is only a few days between the bleeding.
I know they say to leave it until you have missed your period but as you have just read, this presents a problem to me. I really dont know how long to leave it, can anyone suggest anything?

Wait between 2 and 3 weeks after you think it was succesful. if you get a negative, do another test a week later. if after a few more weeks you don't have a period, then go see your GP or the nurse at your practise, they could do a blood test, and your GP could give you some medication to make you more "regular" thereby increasing your chances of success. Keep trying, don't despair!

The best test to buy is 'Early Response'. It can be used 5 days before your period is due. Although yours aren't regular, if you do one now and it comes back negative do another in 2 weeks, that way you will get one test done at the right time in your cycle.
If you still think you are and both tests come back negative, go and see your GP, you can have an ultrasound scan at 7 weeks pregnant (my daughter had one at 7 weeks and all there was on the screen was a heartbeat)

I hope you are, good luck :-)

Some tests can detect pregnancy 4 days before your period is due. Take the longest date you've had in between bleeds and add a day then take a test. My pregnancy test came up negative every time until I was 6 weeks gone!

It doesn't hurt to take a test. I took one everyday until I got a positive or until I got my period. I got a positive test about 4 weeks after the first day of my last menstrual period. Hope this helps! Good luck!

If you think you are pregnant then wait at least 3 weeks since you "felt like" you were. You might be able to have a good test. If all else, take the test and see what happens. I would watch your period cycle and note any changes. GOOD LUCK!

I would go to the Dr first to find out for sure if you're really positive about conceiving. Then if you aren't talk to the DR about regulating your cycle if possible that could help your ability to conceive a child. I know that taking prenatal pills helps your body prepare to conceive better than nothing at all. Also, drinking and smoking doesn't help it at all. But if you are, you'll have to take a test, but pms symptoms can seem like you are pregnant too unfortunately.

If it's been over three weeks since your last period//bleeding, you can take a test anytime now. They even sell pregnancy tests now that let you know upto three days before a woman is due to have her period. Good luck and best wishes hun!

My wife and I are getting ready to try for one and she has the same problems as you. She went to a doctor about the irregularities and they found that it was a hormonal imbalance. They are going to treat her for that to get her regulated first. So if you turn out not to be pregnant, you may want to work on that first so u can time when it best to try for a baby. Knowing exactly when you are ovulating can help alot. But hopefully you do not have that problem now.

I'd say 5 weeks after your last period! It would be like being overdue and so about the time you would normally do the test!
Good luck, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
