I have this long shoelace that I'm trying to use to tie this USB disk to so it can be securley carried as a necklace or something. The shoelace is to big to tie into the holes on the disk, so I'm looking for a tutorial or something that shows how to tie a string around this little almost square piece so that it won't slip out.

If you get a thinner piece you can make a loop with the string and stick in the square piece. The pull the entire USB throught the loop so it won't slip out.
