Yes, my family is using them right now.
My husband is going to school at a University and preparing for medical school. In order to have a good chance of getting in a a good medical school he needs to have time put in as a volunteer at a hospital every week. So on top of 4 hard biology classes, he volunteers, and works 20 hours a week for $10 / hour. I stay home with our child (he's a toddler) and we are planning to have another soon. I have odd jobs at home jobs like envelope stuffing, selling portraits on eBay, etc. We tried to stay afloat financially for as long as possible with school loans and grants, but after awhile it still just wasn't enough. If I worked it would only pay for the day care. The help from food stamps would take off the strain enough to make it work, or we could apply for state funded day care so I could get a job. Personally we felt if we were going to need help either way that it was better for me to stay home with our young son. We'll probably need them until my husband is graduated from medical school. We figure the amount we'll pay in taxes with a doctor's wage will "pay back" to the system what we used pretty quickly. If it wasn't for government aid, we wouldn't be able to send my husband through medical school. Also, because of this experience we'll be much more mindful of those who are low-income when he's a doctor, and he plans to set up free volunteer based screenings or whatever he can.

After my divorce I had to stop giving the kids an allowance cuz I ran short of money for bills & I felt as bad as the kids did cuz they
could no longer have soda, candy, ice cream, etc. like their friends did so I got on foodstamps after I saw people in the grocery checkout ahead of me buying that junk with THEIR food stamps! Then I got off of foodstamps when the child support came in more steadily.

Yes my husband had a back injury and was out of work for 5 months. Even though it was a little embarrassing I was very thankful to receive them. Makes me wonder what happened before food stamps came along. Mmm

Lets see, my husband died suddenly at 40 years old and i wasnt working and i had 4 children to feed, and 600.00 a month in food stamps came in handy until i found a job. Thats what they are for; for people in crisis.

No. I utilized for them once in my existence & replaced into grew to develop into down. My husband had lost his job because they supposedly went out of organisation. We stumbled on out later that they'd moved to a state the position they could pay decrease wages & opened less than a diverse call. i replaced into operating for type of $5 /hr (this replaced into interior the 70's) and that i utilized for foodstuff stamps on account that we had a daughter also. i replaced into instructed that Reagan had replaced the criteria for foodstuff stamps & in reality $5 /hr replaced into sufficient for a kinfolk of three!

I was once, years ago now, for three months
I was a single mother, in college, and I needed help paying for daycare
I didn't apply for the foodstamps, DHS set them up for me.
Apparently they use the same information for all of it
I qualified, so they gave them to me
