Well, don't call them an "angent" 'cause they won't know what you're talking about. It's an "agent."

They don't cost anything. Agents take you on as a client for a percentage of your earnings on jobs THEY get for you. You don't pay anything up front, but if the agent gets you an acting job, they get somewhere between 10% - 20% of the money you get from the job. If you get a job on your own, you pay them nothing.

If somebody offers to be your "agent" for a fee, run away quickly. It's a scam. Real agents don't charge fees, even for people just starting out. That makes the agent more motivated to get you a real job -- no job, no money. Anybody who wants to charge you a fee up front isn't going to do anything to get you work, 'cause they've already been paid!

Agents cost NOTHING. They're paid a percentage of what YOU earn, assuming that THEY'RE the ones that got you the job.

You need to get this straight from the start: Agents should NEVER, EVER, charge actors up-front, for anything! If an agent asks you for money up-front, run the other way. Fast.

Agents that charge money are NOT legitimate talent agents. Agents get 10% of the salary earned by a union actor.

If an agents tries to charge you money, leave the office.

If you live in a Right-to-Work State, you can audition for any SAG agent in you city and you are eligible to join AFTRA if you live in a Right-to-Work State.

Go to: sag.org and see if the agent you want to auditon with is listed on the SAG website.

Contact the local SAG office in Orlando --- there was one when I lived there. An agent shouldn't make dime one until you get work, and anyone who's charging you money up front isn't operating within SAG/AFTRA signatory policy.

So, in other words, they don't cost anything until you get work. And when you do, they'll probably get ten percent of your gross.

You shouldn't be charged just to have an agent. They should want you and then if you do end up getting a job they get like 10 per cent or something like that. you will be negotiating your contract so that they get enough money

10% for theatre and 15% for film and television is standard.

The agent works for you. You choose each other. The agent believes you have the chops or the future to make money for his agency, and you believe the agent will fight to get you seen by casting agents and directors.

The word is agent and you don't get one, he selects you. They generally charge a percentage of the jobs he gets for you.
