I turn 18 in 19 days, so that opens up more opportunities. However, I still have no idea where I should apply for a job. I don't really want to work with food though. Any (appropriate) suggestions would be great! Thanks!

To LMNOP: I'm a senior in highschool and cannot yet attend college. However, I am already accepted into college for fall '07...not that it's any of your business what i choose to do with my life.
Also, I am NOT being picky..I just don't like working with food...K? How is that being "so picky"? Yeah, that's what I thought...it's not.

Try a clothing, book, or record store. Working with people really isn't that bad. If you work at a clothing store, many will give you a deep discount (encouraging you to be a walking mannequin and wearing things you've bought there to work). Any store you work at will give you some sort of discount or incentive, try somewhere you'd buy things from anyway. If you don't mind somewhere really busy, you can try a big retailer like Wal-Mart or Target....there are a lot of everyday things that can be bought there which you'll have a discount on, leaving you more money to save or spend. The hours won't be too insane since shops are usually open from something like 9-9 depending on where you live, leaving you plenty of time for your social life. The money is usually at least a dollar or two over minimum wage, and you'll pick up a lot of skills that will look great on resumes later. Sales, customer service, register/computer experience, merchandising, advertising, etc. Good luck!

I would suggest getting off of Yahoo Answers and start getting a worthwhile education (college).

In the meantime, check classified postings in local newspapers. There are usually always a few clerical/secretarial type jobs and uhh not much else without an education. I would stop being so picky too...The employers should be the one doing the picking and pointing out what THEY want or do not want in an employee.

Also...waitressing is a great first time job for your information. You're not cooking or anything like that, pay kinda sucks but if you know how to work your customers or people in general, the tips are AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Good luck =)

Don't limit yourself to applying only at one place at a time and waiting for them to call back. Blanket an area close to home and apply to as many type of places you could see yourself working at. It's fine if you don't want to work fast food. Don't apply to those places. Also, fill out the application at the store and turn it in immediately. If you take it home, there will be a good chance that you will take too long to return it or may not even return it all.

The first guy is a jerk, what an idiot. Some people happen to have morals and self-esteem. Others just don't have the desire to be exploited.
Try applying at the mall at some clothing places. They offer greeat discounts :) Maybe even try some receptiionist jobs if you are looking for something more sophisticated. You'll do good, just always give your best!

A lifeguard, coach, tutor, hairdresser, clerk and a babysitter are all suggestions. I wouldn't want to do any of them, but they're all I could come up with!
