There are several ways to look at factors:

-7 is a factor if it divides "evenly" into 354.
-If 354 divided by 7 is a whole number, then 7 is a factor.
-If 7 times some whole number equals 354, then 7 is a factor.
-Another word for factor is "divisor."
-More generally, factors are things that are multiplied. In this case, we want to see if 7 times something (whole) equals 354.

Doing the long division, we find: 354 divided by 7 equals 50 with a remainder of 4.

Therefore, 7 is NOT a factor of 354.

If the question asked for 357 instead, it would work. 7 * 51 = 357; therefore, 7 is a factor.

So for most numerical problems, just divide the large number by the small number. If the remainder is zero, then the small number is a factor of the large number.

Factor means 354/7 is an integer.
354/7=50 4/7 so 7 is not a favtor of 354.
354=2*3*59
so 1, 2, 3, 6, 118 & 177 are factors of 354 but 7 isn't.

If 7 is a factor of 354, the 354/7 will be a whole number. But
354/7=50.571428 so it is not a factor.
The factors of 354 are 2*3*59.
The factors of 10 are 5 and 2 because 5*2 = 10
The factors of 16 are 2,2,2,2 because 2*2*2*2 =16

Factors of numbers are numbers that divide evenly into that number. For example, the factors of 56 are 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 14, 28, 56.

As for whether or not 7 is a factor of 354, it is NOT. 354 divided by 7 is 50.57142857142857...

354/7 =50 +4/7

A factor of a number is defined as an integer number that you can multiply with some other (or the same) integer number and get the original number you were attempting to find factors for.

Therefore, in this case, 7 is not a factor, since 50 +4/7 is not an integer.

Just divide 354 by 7 and if you get a whole number, then it is a factor... and no, it is not a factor.

354 / 2 = 177
177/ 3 = 59
59 / 59 = 1

2, 3, and 59 are factors, 7 not
