usually the main character has a dream which is induced by a blow to the head followed by some sort of medication...you could use the war as a metaphor and drop flowers all over iraq which makes peace and brings our soldiers back home...just a quick thought.

How about something with a Unicorn with a rare color horn. The horn somehow gets lost for some reason and the hunt for the horn begins. Which could lead into all kinds of mischief. If the horn is not recovered, all colors will disolve into blacks and grays, leaving us with a pretty dull world. Good Luck!

How about a little girl who runs away from an abusive home and deep in the woods she runs into a colony of fairies who let her stay with them.
