Your Operating system uses your hard drive for "Virtual memory" and an extension on the RAM you already have installed. Many of the folks said "add more RAM" which is good and will also increase your overall performace...but the real problem is your hard drive..
Many also stated about increasing you VM size. VM needs Harddrive space if there is no more space, increasing it won't fix it.
Most reasons for getting this alert is that youn running low on disk space.... Like what the others said, do some disk clean up and free up from hard drive space. This "should" work in most cases. Some folks had added a an old second drive just to be used for VM.
All those processes running,,Local system, etc,,, That's your OS and 99% of all tasks running are legite... If you are into pain and suffering you can look up all the processes, but before you end processes KNOW what it is doing.....you can hose your system faster than a speeeding bullet...
Anywho...Hope this helps

Virtual memory is PRE set by windows.
For example it could say "Use 5 MB for virtual memory"
I'm sorry I can't tell you exactly HOW, but if you go to start menu, help, and type in virtual memory, it should tell you how to increase how much virtual memory windows is using and you can change it.
if you press control, alt delete and look at the bottom of that window, it will tell you how many process you have running and a CPU percentage.
A standard rule of thumb is 20-25% of CPU usage. Sometimes it may jump to 80%, but as long as the norm is between that value you should be fine in regards to your process running.
It's just that some programs take up MORE virtual memory then others.
You could use one program that uses almost all your virtual memory, then in another case you could open 20 programs and only use half of your virtual memory.

To increase the virtual memory do the folowing
In the Control-Panel, select the System icon (or right-click "My Computer" on the desktop and select Properties)
Select the tab: "Advanced" and then in the section "Performance" the button "Settings".
In the Window "Performance Options", use the tab : "Advanced"
In the section "Virtual Memory", the system shows the total size
of the Paging file, which you can increase with the "Change" button.
Increase the value.

For a Permanent solution...
I added more RAM memory to my computer and I stopped getting those messages
(The amount of RAM memory in your system regulates how many processes you can run at one time)

Well if you have processes running around you better hurry go catch them. :)
ok ok lame joke....
just end/stop/close some of your processes. delete some programs on your computer that you don't use anymore, and free up space... that might help. But yea you friends are right, you proabbly have too many things going on all at once. a computer can multitask very well, but everything has its limits.

Go to add and remove programs and uninstall stuff you dont need or want. Defrag your comp. You could also get an external hard drive to put your games/music/pictures/ what ever you want to free up some memory.

buy more ram.
or go to window system and add more more virtual memory.
when you don't have enough ram(in the chip) windows use part of the hard disk as a virtual ram.so You may re modify it and tell windows to use more hard disk space as virtual ram

Bubbie is correct, start with trying to increase the VM. You should also try to clean up the computer to make your memory usage more efficient.
I just answered a similar question at this link:
