I support stem cell research... it has been very beneficial. It is embryonic stem cell research that has been a failure, despite holding out promise. Tax dollars should not go towards it, private research is the way to go.
If there was a profit motive behind it the private labs would be all over it. But without the profit margin nobody is investing in it.

I support the research and the funding.
If we did not have federally funded medical research we would not have cures for cancer and many other diseases.
What makes stem cell research any different than any other medical research? Why should it be treated any differently?
Most embryonic stem cells come from left over frozen embryos from fertilization procedures.
If your argument against it is that it kills life, I have a two questions for you.
Would you prefer these embryos that will never be implanted for pregnancy be just thrown away?
Does throwing an embryo in the trash can somehow make the embryo less dead than sending it to the research lab?
Researchers and private investors have been scared to proceed much with embryonic stem cell work due to the fact that it is under constant attack by the religious nut jobs. They do not want to privately invest millions into research when the research itself is under legal attack and their investment would be wasted if the nut jobs are successful in banning this work.
This limit on the research is what is keeping any breakthroughs in this work. If we can pass amendments like they did in Missouri legally establishing the right to perform this vital research we can proceed without fear of the religious nut jobs putting an end to the work based on their narrow view of morality.
By the way now that the right to this research is in the Missouri constitution, there are several new research facilities being built with private funds.

I support the research and wouldn't mind myself paying a small portion in taxes to support it but that is not something that everyone is morally okay with. So if you feel like supporting the cause, donate and get tax benefits from donating to a non-profit organization or something! I just don't think it's right for taxes to be used towards it just because there are so many people on both sides of the fence when it comes to stem cell research.

Your question is not specific enough. There is adult stem cell research and embryonic stem cell research. The former has shown much promise and the latter none at all. If embryonic stem cell research were promising, private capital would be flooding into it. The possibility of cures--or even amelioration--of Parkinson's disease, diabetes, and all the rest holds in prospect untold billions of profits for those who develop them. But private capital is not there for embryonic stem cell research. That is why the special interests which have a vested interest in embryonic stem cell research are demanding tax support--because that is the only kind they are going to get. So, yes, I support adult stem cell research but not tax support for embryonic stem cell research.

since we already support Stem Cell research I don't see what the big deal is. We don't fund embryonic which has proven to be a big bust anyway. No cures have come from it, and no foreseen cures are slated. There are three ways to legally gather stem cells without aborting a baby. This is just an ploy by the democrats to vilify abortion. Only those who do not know their facts are falling for this tripe. The only winners here are the research companies pockets.

I support public funding of stem cell research of cord blood and the non-abortion kinds.
I support this becuase I believe treatments that come from this will be more available and cheaper if the reseach is publicly funded. If a private corporation discovers something, they are going to use it to to maximize profits and recoup funding dollars. The fed. government doesn't care about making profits off of things like that.

I do. I am for private research because when profit is involved, people get results. I am opposed to most programs that federal funds fund. If you want something, pay for it yourself.
BTW, there is a lot of gross lies about Republican positions on stem cells. There are many types that do not destroy life. There are some like embryonic that have no viable cures or research. Liberals want this because it is another government program that they can use to steal people's wealth. Also, it degrades morality with regards to life. They want a society where there is unfettered abortion at any time. They do not want limits posted on personal behavior.

I support Adult Stem Cell Research and Amniotic Stem Cell Research, and I would endorse tax money being used to fund those two types of research.
I do not endorse the use of tax dollars for Embryonic Stem Cell Research because Embryonic Stem Cell Research has yet to produce a viable treatment or cure for anything, is much riskier to the recipients, and is a "pet cause" for politics to attempt to ascribe a "morality" to abortion.

I don't. I support stem cell research and support federal taxes to fund it. It is beneficial and people oppose it for religious reasons with no scientific basis. It could help eradicate certain type of diseases and those embryos at those IVF clinics are going to be thrown into the garbage anyway. Let us use it for something meaningful.

I don't favor embryonic stem cell research because and embryo is a tiny person. I favor any other type of research that doesn't involve destroying life. However, I do oppose public funding of all research because government funding is ineffective. Competition in the private sector gives incentive to find a solution or cure efficiently. Efficiency is something government knows nothing about.
